I grew up working in the family woodworking / carpentry business, starting when I could lift a hammer – Wallace E. Corkum, Building and Repairing – in Middle LaHave, Nova Scotia, along the LaHave River, near Bridgewater and Lunenburg (Bluenose country). One of the sidelines was helping my father (and brothers) make wooden hay rakes used in the olden days by farmers in the field. My brother, Roderick, has documented the tedious process of making these rakes, which started with us harvesting the wood ourselves.
